I chose these songs because all my life I've listen to country and Eric Church has been my favorite country artist. I started listening to country every since I was little because of my sisters so I grew up not listening to anything else but country. Eric Church relates to a lot of peoples life and that's what makes him so great. Eric isn't one of those people who are all about money, hes hardworking and comes from a small town, Eric Church once said "Many people have come to think they can just wake up and have things handed to them", this quote relates to my life each and everyday by working hard to be successful in life and to take over McGrath Press some day, but I don't want it handed to me, I want to strive for it.

Eye of the Tiger

The song "Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor is about fighting and overcoming adversity to get what you want in life. It written for the movie Rocky 3. In the movie, Rocky was a champ boxer and was very famous after the second movie's ending. The beginning starts off with a montage of Rocky beating everybody who challenges him for the title. He now lives in a mansion and has a luxurious lifestyle. Then, when another boxer challenges him to a fight, he becomes overconfident and is caught up in his fame. This is similar to the verse "so many times, it happens too fast, you change your passions for glory.” His urge and commitment to beating Apollo Creed in the first two movies was traded for public attention and fame.

The main message of this song is that we should never think we are too good for something. We should give everything our best shot and focus on what we want to accomplish.

Dale Saini

The quote stated by Michael Jordan in this image states “ I've failed over and over and over again in my life and this is why I succeed”.  I believe this piece of media is communicating that one should never give up and always strive for success. If one doesn't strive for success in times of adversity, than one will fail. When Michael Jordan is stating this quote, I believe he is referencing to his experience of not making his high school varsity basketball team. Instead of quitting Michael Jordan worked tirelessly at his basketball skills in order to improve and make the basketball team. By following the lesson of this quote, he then received a collegiate basketball scholarship to play at the University of North Carolina, and then got drafted to the NBA, and won multiple championships with the Chicago Bulls. The technique this is used to make this quote more appealing, is that the quote is placed on a picture of Michael Jordan dunking from the free throw line, which at the time many people thought was impossible. The intended audience, is everybody in the world because everybody goes through adversity and everybody can fight through it. I also intend to use this in times of adversity in my life.  I think this quote is accurate because any one can overcome anything. They just have to be willing to put the work in.

Despicable Me

Gru: “Look mom, I drew a picture of me landing on the moon.”
Gru’s mom: “Eh.”
Gru: “Look mom, I made a prototype of a rocket out of macaroni.”
Gru’s mom: “Eh.”
Gru: “Look mom, I built a real rocket based on the macaroni prototype.”
Gru’s mom: “Eh.”

Gru: “It’s like my heart is a tooth, and it’s got a cavity that can only be filled with children.”

Media Analysis:

The message that I think my video and quotes are trying to communicate is that people can change in the most unexpected way and that acting bad doesn't mean that you really are bad from the heart.  Gru from Despicable Me proved that to me.  He had a rough childhood and he is the main character that is communicating the message.  He was picked on at school and his mom didn't really pay much attention to him.  Gru was an outcast in his own life and he felt lonely most of the time, like he had no one in his corner.  So he grew up to become a villain and built an army of minions that would never disobey him and would always be there when he needed them.  But then he met the girls, Margo, Edith, and Agnes and his whole world changed.  He adopted them for his own selfish reasons just to help him with his master-plan but he ended up becoming really close to them and understanding what it was like to have a family.  He no longer felt alone and Gru’s journey from an angry villain to a loving dad really inspired me and made me love the movie. My media is directed to an audience of everyone.  It might be children that enjoy it the most but but this is a story that any age group could enjoy.  It’s about discovering other people as well as yourself and understanding the meaning of family.  That would have a target audience of anyone; it’s not a limited media piece.  This media is special to me and I enjoy seeing Gru grow and change as a person in a funny, heartwarming story.

The Greatest Game Ever Played represents my attitude towards my life now and my future. This true story outlines the road that Francis Ouimet took to winning the 1913 U.S. Open. He went against all the odds and beat the world's two best professionals and won as an amateur. This movie sends the message to never give up on your dreams, regardless of how unlikely they may be.  Francis understood that the odds of him winning were not in his favor, but that did not stop him from trying to accomplish the goal of winning the U.S. Open. If you never give up on your goals, one day you could achieve them. Francis Ouimet communicates this attitude in the movie by constantly trying to better himself not only as a person, but also as a golfer. He realizes that the only way that he can accomplish his goals is by always working hard and never quitting. In the movie they use a lot of glorifying shots. One such example is at the end of the movie. After Francis has won the U.S. open he is hoisted onto the shoulders of the crowd as everyone cheers him on. It just really shows how all the hard work paid off. It is a really inspirational shot that has stayed with me for a long time, it perfectly shows that perseverance can pay off greater that you ever expected. The intended audience for this movie is really any sports fan. Most sports fan realize that winning does not come without hard work, and while they may not be able to relate to Francis on this level, they can still relate to him on some level. Most athletes, professional or amateur have worked hard to become better at the sport they play, and when it eventually pays off, it is one of the best feeling in the world, and this movie almost gives you that feeling. This is a true story, and while some aspects of the movie may be embellished to some level, it gives you the idea of what winning that tournament might have been like, and the glory and satisfaction that came with it.

Lexies Personal Media

I chose this quote because i think its very important to remember while going through life. People make mistakes everyday, every hour, and even every minute. Some mistakes are small and do not truly impact your life in anyway at all. For example, spilling your milk at dinner might have seemed like a really big deal when you were younger, but someone or even yourself seemed to save the day by cleaning it up in a matter of seconds. Sometimes, mistakes are bigger than spilled milk, and can effect the way the rest of your life is forever negatively or positively. For example, Someone asks you to try a new drug because "everybody's doing it" and you do and you become addicted to that drug and eventually your whole life because revolved around a drug. Sometimes people make mistakes that were for the best at the time but later on you regret making that mistake and dwell on what could have or should have been if you chose a different option. People shouldn't dwell and get depressed over things that happened in the past. The past is called the past for a reason. Leave your memories of the mistake their. Learn from them, grow from them, and never let your mistakes define who you are as a person.

This video is from a music festival I went to last summer called Summerset. The festival was six hours away in Somerset, Wisconsin towards the end of summer in August. Everyone brings tents and camps out for the whole weekend of the festival. During the day everyone hangs around the campsites till later at night when the music starts. The message that this video communicates is how much fun these festivals are and how people from all over come together to enjoy this type of music. At these festivals everyone is so friendly and no one is judged on how you dress or who you are because everyone is just there to have a good time and to listen to the music. I would say that the intended audience for this is probably anyone. Teens are definitely the most popular age group at this festival but I have seen all ages there. EDM is my favorite type of music and this video reflects my interests because I like going to this festival and others during the summer and listening to this music everyday.

The quote by Dr. Seuss, “Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind” has always impacted me and my life. Many people often hear a certain quote and think about it at the given moment, but then forget it shortly after. Even if they believe the words are inspirational or moving, it still holds little meaning to them further down the road. However, when I heard this quote from my sister, many years ago, I was immediately influenced. To me, Dr. Seuss wanted to portray the message that wherever you go and whatever you do, there will always be others who will criticize you for doing something the “wrong” way when it may just be a way that is different from what they believe to be the correct way. It taught me that while I may have one method of doing something, another person could have a completely different approach that they believe is the proper way to do it. This explains how every individual is unique and does not mean that the way they would like to do something is the wrong way. It simply shows altering perspectives on a situation. Dr. Seuss’s quote showed me that everyone is important and each person’s opinion is valuable and because of this, I give everyone that I meet a chance and never judge them from what is on the outside. It also taught me the importance of others and not only their relationships with me, but also their feelings and thoughts as well. This means that I have learned that I should not let all the people who criticize and ridicule my actions affect the person that I become. If there are people who feel the need to do this to me, then they are not worth my time or my concern to appease them. Likewise, those who are worth my time and are concerned about how I feel, will take the time to listen to what I have to say and worry about my feelings when they determine how to respond to me.

"Keep Your Head Up" by Andy Grammer

Tangled

Tangled is a Disney movie about a princess named Rapunzel whose dream is to see the lanterns be set into the sky from wherever they are coming from. Rapunzel was kidnapped when she was little because she has magic hair. Her kidnapper raised her like she was her daughter so Rapunzel was taught that everything outside her tower walls was dangerous. The whole movie is based around Rapunzel escaping from her tower to go find the lights, and the problems she comes across along the way. This movie gives the message that you should follow your dreams no matter how impossible they may seem. Rapunzel knew she was risking her life by going to see the lights but she did not care because she wanted to see them so bad. Rapunzel was only a girl and this journey was a million times her size. One of the battles during her trip included meeting a wanted criminal that she befriended; they were being chased down so they kept moving because he would help her reach her goal. Rapunzel showed me that even if you do not know how the end will turn out before you try, do not let that hold you back from trying. Rapunzel reached her dreams by seeing the lanterns be lit and set into the sky. She also found out the meaning of why the lanterns were set off which was for her. They were from her parents, who are the king, that were trying to get her to find her way home. Even though this movie is an animation and is directed towards a younger audience the message it gives can be given to any person no matter what their age is.

Finding Nemo

Finding Nemo is a Disney movie about a fish that gets taken away by a scuba diver to be a new pet fish in a dentist office. When put in the tank he is scared and confused because he cant keep swimming he just keeps slamming into glass walls and he is greeted by other fish that have been living in the tank. Nemo’s dad Marlin leaves his safe zone at home to search for his only son, Nemo. Marlin runs into obstacles on his way to find Nemo. Marlin meets Dory, a friendly fish with short term memory loss. Together they work hard to get to 42 Wallaby Way, Sydney. They meet some hungry sharks that try to eat Dory and Marlin but they all end up being friends and getting out safe. Meanwhile at the dentist office, the other fish work together to try to help Nemo escape. Through all the obstacles they keep searching. Eventually they find each other and everything goes back to normal and they are happier than ever to be back together. This relates to me because I am still searching for what I want in life. I still don't know where I want to go to college, I don't know what I want to be when I am older and I still don't know where life is going to take me but eventually I will find everything I was looking for and everything will fall into place. Marlin never stopped searching for his son, just like I will never stop searching for who I am going to become.

Frozen
The Lion King
Frozen is a movie which teaches the importance of being yourself. Two girls, Anna and Elsa, were inseparable as children but as they grew up, they grew apart. Elsa, the older sister who has the power to freeze anything she touches, ended up hurting her sister when they were young. In order to prevent this from happening again, Elsa isolates herself in her room and avoids her sister for many years, even after their parents die. Once Elsa takes the throne at 18 years old, she learns that instead of staying clear of her little sister and avoiding her at all costs, staying loyal to her and supporting her throughout her life is the better way to deal with the situation. Instead of keeping her true self hidden from her own sister, an important lesson Elsa learns is to be herself despite it being difficult at times.  This is a message that does not just apply to this movie. The message of being yourself and staying loyal to the people who care about
you applies to everybody on a daily basis. Instead of being someone who you are not, it is important to be yourself because everyone has different perspectives on life and without sharing these perspectives, the world misses out. The message of staying loyal to others who care about you applies to life in general because in a time of need, these people will make sacrifices for you as long as you do the same. Frozen targets young children who enjoy animated Disney movies. Children who love stories about princesses and adventure are the main targeted audience for this movie. This story is very complete. Like most Disney movies, there was a happy ending and the characters within the movie ended up learning very important life lessons.

Nasty Nas

N.Y. State of Mind -Nas

This song gives off the message that there are times when crime is necessary for survival. In the city streets, people operate a lot differently than the average law abiding citizens. In certain areas of the country, people grow up learning how to get around the law and how to make money illegally. Although this may not always be the best way, it sometimes is the only way. Nas, the writer, is the one who is speaking because he learned from his early life that life gets rough and you have to do whatever you can to get by. The way that Nas raps and the beats that he uses affects the way his music sounds. this song is fast-paced and keeps people interested throughout. His music tends to be for teens and younger men. Those are the people that enjoy what he talks about and the style of his music. There isn't really a story… I will apply this message to my daily life; when challenges arise I take them head on and push through.

Remember the Titans

Remember the Titans is a movie addressing racial discrimination and a first year African-American coach tries to handle a racially integrated team. This movie represents the difficulty of a team coming together to achieve something greater and the team represents all of the US that if they were to come together they could achieve greatness. The writers of the script and the directors of the movie present these messages through the way certain situations arise in the movie. The intentions of the movie are to show the people watching how difficult it was to become integrated but how great it really is when everyone can be treated as the same. The director and writers did a great job representing these tense moments of discrimination and prejudice which was very accurate because there really were very harsh feelings between African-Americans and white people. The movie is targeting anyone who would like a better understanding of what life was like between the two different ethnicities at the time. It also appeals to people who just enjoy good stories and great movies that are very well done. The story is very accurate because it is based on a true story and it accurately represents the relationship between African-Americans and white people. With this story I will learn that you can overcome any adversity if you just stay persistent and also it teaches me that discrimination is wrong and that everyone is equal.

The movie "Frozen"

The movie Frozen is about two sisters, Elsa and Anna. These two sisters are a queen and a princess, who live in a castle closed off from the people in the town surrounding them. Elsa has a secret that nobody knows about, not even her younger sister, Anna. Since the secret could be dangerous for Anna, Elsa keeps her sister out of her life in an attempt at protecting her. Anna and the whole town eventually finds out that Elsa possesses the power to freeze anything at any given moment. After Elsa runs away because she does not want to accidentally harm anyone, Anna chases after her, but only makes things worse. Throughout this movie, Anna continues to perform acts of kindness towards Elsa, even though she has shut her out ever since she was a little girl. In the movie, Olaf, a snowman that Elsa created with her power, says that some people are worth melting for. After Elsa accidentally strikes Anna with her power, Olaf helps warm her up by holding her by the fire. He begins to melt while doing so, but he does not leave. This movie gives the message that some people are worth helping out, no matter what the consequences are for you. This applies to life because everyone has multiple people in their own life that they would do something for even if it hurt them a little bit. This Disney movie is similar to many other Disney movies because of the message that is portrayed. Disney often makes movies with happy endings and messages about being yourself, staying loyal to your friends and family, and that doing things for other people is important. With this story, I will continue to do things for other people no matter what the consequences for me are. It is important to make other people happy in order for you to be happy in your life.

Dan Gable poster by asics

This poster show that wrestling is a basis for succeeding in life because everything after wrestling becomes easier due to the skills that you pick up. These skill could include leadership qualities and overall discipline and courage to go out and try different things. The man in the poster, Dan Gable, is an Olympic gold medalist and World Wrestling Champion also the former head wrestling coach at the University of Iowa. While coaching at Iowa from 1976-1997 the team won 16 NCAA national championships which was formerly unaccomplished.  Dan Gable compiled a dual meet record of 355–21–5. He coached 152 all-Americans, 45 national champions, 106 Big Ten Champions and 12 Olympians, including four gold, one silver and three bronze medalists. The Hawkeyes won 25 consecutive Big Ten championships, 21 while he was head coach and four while he was an assistant coach and administrator.
The poster uses the lack of color and lack of “pizzazz” to show that it isn't about flash, and there is no BS involved in wrestling the only way to succeed is by working hard and dedicating yourself to it. He  was well known for this quote because it helps solidify the fact that wrestling is one of the most grueling and difficult sports in existence today.

Mean

Taylor Swift

Taylor Alison Swift rose so quickly starting her music career at the age of fourteen. The fact that she can relate to all of her fans only helps her growing success. Her countless hit songs and records portray heartbreak, love and other things all young girls, and even boys go through. She cares immensely for her fans and even says “For everything I do, I think about a 6-year-old girl and her mom that I saw at my concert last night. I think about what those two individuals would think if I were at a club last night. I never want to be arrested, and I never want to get a DUI, those are my moral values.” Taylor’s Song “Mean” speaks to anyone who understands what its like to be bullied especially in a relationship. The opening lyrics “You, with your words like knives, And swords and weapons that you use against me” really hit the core of the problem because is exactly what the mean people are doing. Taylor however is always trying to be positive and empowering. Even though the song is about being bullied and torn down, the upbeat rhythm makes it positive still. The main message of this song is said with these inspiring lyrics- “But someday I'll be living in a big ol' city And all you're ever gonna be is mean, yeah Someday I'll be big enough so you can't hit me And all you're gonna be is mean”. This song truly inspires me to never make someone feel this way, and to know that I am going to be better than my bully some day. I believe that all of her fans feel this way too, otherwise she wouldn't be as successful as she is.

"Theme From New York, New York" - Frank Sinatra

The song that means the most to me is Frank Sinatra’s song “Theme From New York, New York” it is a story about success in the big city and a way of life.  I grew up with my grandmother listening to Frank Sinatra in the car everyday and so for me it brings me back to a time when I did not have any worries and I was spending time with my grandmother who still plays Sinatra every time I am in the car with her.  Frank Sinatra is communicating in his song that it is okay to make a new start and that once you make it in New York you can be successful anywhere.  The intended audience of this song is basically anyone.  Anyone that enjoys music and appreciates good music would like the song, it is not the hip-hopy song of today it is a more classic song.  This song is very true; most people they strive to be successful and as the song says if you can make it in New York you can make it anywhere and this is very true because New York is the big city that “never sleeps” meaning that there is always something going on.  I live by the ideas in this song everyday, I strive for success in my daily life. The only way to success is to keep trying a not be afraid to start over and then put forth your effort and you can become successful.

Bear Grylls

Bear eats a spider
Bear Grylls has served as a motivator in my life. I am currently reading his autobiography which is giving me great insight to his life. Bear has taught me how to rise above certain obstacles. When you watch his show he seems to have no fear but as he states “I am not fearless. I get scared plenty. But I have also learned how to channel that emotion to sharpen me”(Bear Grylls) we realize that in survival and in everyday life it is very important that we can understand and control our emotions.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Snaibcz1-mo

Bear Grylls and his crew target the more adventurous type of people. He displays in many of his episodes, fearless effort in survival technique.  Whenever a difficult task comes up in my life I always remember that “ ...sometimes, no matter how hard you try, sometimes you need a bit of luck”(Bear Grylls).
